PEERS® is an evidence-based Social skills program for autistic adolescents and young adults, youth with ADHD, anxiety, depression, and other socioemotional challenges.

How it works:

  • This internationally acclaimed program teaches important social skills to make and keep friends and develop romantic relationships.

  • During each session, participants learn social skills and are given the opportunity to practice these skills in session.

  • Participants receive assignments after each session and have the opportunity to practice their newly learned skills in their own real world.

  • Parents and/or carers attend separate sessions throughout the program and learn how to coach and assist their teens or young adults in making and keeping friends.

  • Parents and/or carers work with the PEERS coach the foster optimal learning and help expand their teen’s or young adults’ social network.

  • The program consists of 16 sessions, which are delivered on a weekly basis.

Participants will learn about and practice:

  • Conversational skills

  • Handling arguments & disagreements

  • Appropriate use of humor

  • Organizing get-togethers with friends

  • Electronic communication

  • Dating skills

  • Handling direct and indirect bullying

  • Strategies for handling sexual pressure
